About CoolSeal
CoolSeal has been designed and developed especially for the cold chain delivery of chilled fish, meat and other foods. Coolseal boxes are rapidly penetrating this traditional expanded polystyrene packaging market.
The 100% recyclable polypropylene boxes are easy to prepare for onward processing, as the material is in high demand within Europe and does not have to travel round the world to China to find uses as happens to the Polystyrene.
The initial driving force behind this new development was the ever more stringent packaging waste regulations and the rising cost of disposal. Now in regular use, both packers and receivers have found CoolSeal delivers many other practical benefits too, including storage savings, elimination of breakages and transport benefits.
How Does The Thermal Barrier in CoolSeal Work?
Trapped air is the key. Our patented manufacturing process allows us to seal every edge of every pack. We have also developed lightweight yet wide material, which without sealing is weak. Seal the edge however, and the product is transformed, with more air trapped inside.
This trapped air in both tray and lid acts rather like double glazing, restriting the flow of temperature very effectively. Around a pallet of fish packed in CoolSeal is a significant wall of trapped air.
Folding
Our pre-folded and pre-glued packs include different options. These can be draining or leak-proof 4-cornered glue styles, or fold-over-end and leak-proof. Low tooling costs enable us to offer many variations to reflect the needs of different customers and markets.
With the advantage of low tooling costs, Coolseal is easily adapted to suit individual requirements. Screen-printing in one or more colours will also ensure that the desired brand image is effectively presented. Several leak-proof and draining sizes are kept in stock at Tri-Pack for immediate delivery. Storing printed bespoke customers boxes has become standard, thanks to our new 500+ pallet warehouse.
This allows users to operate with minimal stock holding and operate a reliable just-in-time trade delivery to the packing area.
Savings for processors
It is no longer necessary to reserve large areas of expensive factory space just for boxes waiting to be filled. Coolseal boxes can be stored flat and made up just in time at the packers.
Coolseal is also tough which means an end to EPS breakages and bead blowing around and clogging factory drains.
Coolseal is in regular use for airfreight transportation from Iceland and elsewhere by road to British and European supermarkets. As well as delivering the fish in perfect condition, users of the system gain some very important advantages. Coolseal is up to 30% smaller than like for like capacity EPS boxes. This produces significant cost savings across all modes of transport and especially for airfreight
CoolSeal in-line Machinery
Tri-Pack has worked with high quality machinery specialists to modify existing tried and tested machinery. BOIX tray erectors have been adapted especially for CoolSeal.
Our machinery partners have grasped the opportunity to work with Tri-Pack, recognising that CoolSeal offers a whole new market for them. We have also developed grades of glue just for CoolSeal, allowing PP to be used on this machinery, which is also suitable for wet, cold conditions.
Savings for receivers
At the UK processors or final retail destination, Coolseal can be easily dealt with in either of two ways. Re-Processed polypropylene is in very high demand in Europe with a vast array of applications for it. Who knows, the bumper on your car may be re-cycled CoolSeal boxes!
- The flat empty boxes can be baled or simply palletised for collection by a plastics reprocessor. Polypropylene has a higher raw material value than EPS and reprocessing costs are significantly lower
- CoolSeal can be safely disposed of with general plastic waste. PP’s melt-flow index makes it very flexible in the waste stream. Even this option generates huge savings, with skip hire costs slashed and avoiding the ever increasing landfill charges. This is because Coolseal when flattened has less than 10% of the volume of EPS. It is also inert and can be thermally recycled safely. It is stable in landfill so it will not create dangerous soft spots where lorries can tip over which can occur with EPS which re-expands. Tri-Pack regards landfill as the least desirable method of disposal, and should only be used as a last resort.
